greetings from the 21st Century!

Hiya folks!

We are taking a page from President Obama, and creating new ways of networking with one another. Over the past several years, we have seen our community of practice grow as assessment becomes a more critical piece of our institutional fabric. We see this space as a place to disucuss our challenges, to satisfy our hunger for good practice, to expand opportunities to dialogue with colleagues, and construct a robust social network to keep the field up to date on the latest developments.

So jump on and enjoy the ride!

  1. I think this blog is a great idea and look forward to sharing ideas regarding SLOs, as well as attending the workshop atMtSac on the 13th.

I supervise the Tutorial Lab at Barstow College and while we have been assessing SLOs for several years, we have recently revised them to merge with institution goals. We rely on surveys from students, tutors, and instructor as a means of assessing and measuring our outcomes and then use grades, rentention, and success rates as a by-product.

We are attempting to measure all of our outcomes on a small scale now (10% of our population)and increasing it next semester. One challenge is gathering all the data into excel so I can use it. I'm thinking of possibly using scrantron forms in the future.

The results are often surprising and it is fun developing ways to make changes. The tutors come up with interesting ideas as well - we love experimenting.
